Whatever you say, but Classics will always be in fashion, and Dell knows it. This is probably why Dell’s 3000 series continues to delight users with its models designed for a wide range of users.
Specifically, we are talking about the Dell Inspiron 3000 . This laptop does not surprise with its superpowers, but for everyday use it is quite suitable. The device has a discreet practical design and a medium-level filling, which is enough to perform basic tasks. Let’s see what this gadget is capable of.
The appearance of the device is very attractive. Usually cheap laptops make it boring and monotonous, so in this regard the laptop is lucky. Plastic acts as a finishing material, which is annoying from the point of view of beauty, but from the practical side, it is reasonable. Metal, no doubt, would add sophistication, but at the same time, weight. By the way, on the latter: the weight of the device does not exceed 2.4 kg, which makes it quite mobile and transportable. As far as the size, the length of the laptop is equal to 380 mm, the width is 268 mm and the thickness is 26 mm.by by the way, we could not help but notice that the design of the gadget is very much like the line Lenovo ThinkPad, addressed to the purchasers of the company: the same lines as the cut and the rectilinear shape on the outside, the austerity within. This is a rather interesting move, because it is pleasant for everyone to get a cheap laptop with “habits”from a more expensive laptop.
But back to the design of the Dell Inspiron 3541. The lid is made in gray, but there is also an option in black. Its surface is not smooth, but textured, and it is visually visible and feels tactile. I am glad that the lid is not marked, fingerprints on it, if they remain, are not particularly visible. In the middle you can see the bright Dell logo.
The connecting element of the top and bottom of the laptop are two small plastic hinges. The lid opens easily, it can be done with one hand if desired. There are no squeaks or bribes. The entire bottom of the laptop is made of black. The keyboard and pad surface are also absolutely unmarked and very pleasant to use. The touchpad pleases with its size, it is smooth, and the finger slides comfortably on it.
At the bottom there are four rubber legs, which perform the function of non-slip. It is provided here and the ability to upgrade, unscrew a few screws and remove the cover, you can reach the RAM and hard drive.
Viewing, audio and webcam
The 15.6 inch laptop screen has a matte surface, very comfortable for perception. The screen resolution is 1366×768 pixels, which by modern standards is little, but for everyday work it is suitable. The aspect ratio is 16: 9, The Matrix type is TFT (the screen id is LGD0456). Viewing angles are acceptable for daily work, distortion occurs only with a sharp deviation.
We perform some screen measurements using the Datacolor Spyder4Elite calibrator. Then we measured the color reproduction, brightness and contrast of the display, as well as the uniformity of the backlight. As a result, the following data were obtained: the maximum brightness is 180.9 CD/m2, the maximum value of Black is 3.29 CD/m2, and the contrast is 60:1.
The backlight is also uneven, with the right side of the screen significantly darker than the left, and the maximum discrepancy with the normal value is 27%.
Compared to the other laptop models we chose to compare, the brightness of Dell Inspiron 15 (3541) turned out to be the weakest. Unfortunately, the contrast also disappeared, because our laptop shared the last place with ASUS K56CB.
The next measurement on the tail was the color cover. In the case, we remind readers that the higher the percentage of correspondence, the better, the ideal value is 100%. As you can see from the screenshot below, sRGB compliance to gamma is 64%, while AdobeRGB is only 48%.
Two small grilles, under which the speakers are hidden, were placed on the front frame of the bottom. Usually such “home” laptops cause skepticism in terms of multimedia capabilities, but the Inspiron 3541 is pleasantly surprised. At most, the sound does not hiss, There are problems with bass and medium frequencies, but in general the sound quality is at an acceptable level.
The webcam in this case received a modest resolution of 1 MP. But for the intended use, namely, conducting video conferences, it should be enough.
Keyboard and touchpad
As mentioned above, the island keyboard, like the entire surface of the platform, is made of black plastic. It is rough and quite pleasant to the touch. The keyboard has clearly highlighted edges and includes not only the main unit, but also the numeric unit. The keys are square in shape and marked White. All buttons that are often used in printing are very comfortable. For example, both buttons [Shift], [Enter], [CapsLock], which have, frankly, an elongated shape of success.
In the Test Dell Inspiron 3541 (2594) came to us with the Windows 7 Ultimate operating system preinstalled. However, keep in mind that this is an example, and therefore the version of the operating system on a similar device on store shelves, most likely, is completely different.
quad-core processor AMD A6 – 6310 running at 1.8 GHz. It is performed on a 28 nm process and is considered quite energy efficient, since the maximum level of power consumption is only 15 watts. You can familiarize yourself with the processor in more detail from the screenshots of the CPU-Z application.
The processor is complemented by an integrated graphics card AMD Radeon R4. It has 128 shading cores, support for DirectX 11.2, Shader 5.0. Together with the processor, these graphics can ensure stable operation in conditions of non-demanding daily charging of the laptop. For more complicated work, a discrete AMD Radeon R5 M230 graphics card with 2 GB of native GDDR3 memory is provided. It is performed according to the technical process 28 nm. Of course, it is not worth expecting miracles from this chip, however, its presence is pleasantly pleasing. You can see more information about the characteristics of graphics cards below, in the screenshots of the GPU-Z program.
As for the Dell Inspiron 3541 filler in action, let’s start with Futuremark’s 3DMark06, 3DMark 11, and 3DMark 2013 benchmarks. In 3DMark06, a laptop with a built – in graphics card received 4536 points (2706 CPU test points, 1501 points-SM2.0 and 1928 points-HDR/SM3.0). With a discrete video card, of course, the result is even better-5538 points.
As for the rest of the filling, the laptop provides 4 GB of standard RAM DDR3-1600 MHz. It is represented by a single bar Samsung M471b5173db0-YK0.
Seagate’S 500GB, 5,400 rpm Momentus Thin st500lt012-1dg142 hard drive is responsible for storage. Of course, we couldn’T help but run the HD Tune Pro 5.00 test for the hard drive, and here’s what came out of it: the minimum read speed is 43.8 MB / s, the average is 83.8 MB / s, and the maximum is 113.3 MB / s. the hard drive access time is 19.3 MS.
Since this laptop has a discreet adapter, we could not help but try it in games. We are sure that every reader will wonder how well the device has proven itself in this aspect. We have released two games: Battlefield 4 and Grid 2. The first game with native resolution and with low settings showed 23-27 FPS, the second with high settings was 30-35 FPS. As you can see, the proven laptop is able to perform even challenging games, so in your free time you can plunge into the fascinating world of gamers.
Ports and communications
On the right edge of the Dell Inspiron 3541, you can see a USB 2.0 port, an SD card reader and a DVD-RW optical drive, which supports almost all CD and DVD formats, but does not read HD DVD and BD at all.
On the left side, there is a USB 3.0 port, another USB 2.0, HDMI video output, RJ-45 Network connector, Kensington lock, headphone jack and charging jack.
On the back there are no interfaces, and on the front you can see only an oblong battery status indicator.
