Design and appearance
If you look at the segment of cheap notebooks of recent years, you can see a lot in common with each other. Acer Aspire 5 of them is not much different: a large zipper with the inscription ASPIRE inside, although in general the device looks outdated and boring.
No, this laptop can not be called ugly, but it is clearly not suitable for signage. The body is made of plastic, and around the screen there are thick frames, which Acer somehow calls “narrow”. In terms of appearance, Aspire 5 is significantly inferior to Honor, Huawei or Asus laptops.
The only advantage of the massive Acer case is a large amount of space for the connectors. In the Aspire 5 we have two USB-A 3.1, a USB – A 2.0 and USB-C, an Ethernet port, HDMI and a headphone jack. The missing Thunderbolt 3, however, is no surprise to the price segment.
One of the few aspects where Acer Aspire 5 is able to compete with competitors is the display. There is nothing surprising in it, although the display with 1080p resolution and high detail is ideal for most tasks.
Keyboard and trackpad
In addition to uncomfortable pressing, the keys are not positioned correctly. For some reason, they are small and at the same time distant from each other. Why they could not have been a little more-it is not clear, but this is the most obvious defect that could be corrected in development.
The trackpad works well, although it seems small, the response when pressed is fast on the entire surface. In the upper left corner there is a fingerprint scanner, and this arrangement is also quite strange: most manufacturers prefer the upper right corner, and users are already used to it. However, it works surprisingly well, although it sometimes slows down when turned on.
Acer Aspire 5 is far from the best laptop in performance, and even for normal work activities it is often too slow. The standard version includes an Intel Core i5 – 10210u processor, 8 GB of RAM and a 256 GB hard drive. You can also choose a more expensive option with a more powerful i7 processor and a dedicated Nvidia video card, which greatly increases performance.
However, with the i5 processor, braking is noticeable even when opening a dozen tabs in the browser, despite the fact that in the tests Aspire 5 is not inferior to many competitors. Even more annoying is that the fans begin to work on every occasion: the Laptop begins to make noise even when the simplest tasks are performed. Not to say that the fans here are very noisy, but the frequency of their activity is incredible.
As for the speed of the solid-state drive, Aspire 5 has 1579 MB/s in read and 768 MB / s in write, these values are significantly lower than competitors Honor and Huawei, although they are at the same level as other models such as Avita Liber 14. Data transfer to the laptop is quite slow.
Autonomy Acer Aspire 5
With its massive housing, Aspire 5 houses not only a lot of connectors, but also a volumetric battery. Portable power lacks nearly 10 hours of battery life on a single charge, so the device can safely take it to school or work without an adapter.
